Beyond Weight Loss – My Journey

Beyond Weight Loss – My Journey chronicles my experiences with Weight Loss as a consequence of creating Health. And, Lessons Learned. I finally realized the Weight Loss industry in the US is humongous, and may not have mine nor your Best Interests at heart. Yet, excessive weight has continued to have grave implications for Wellness and Functionality among the young and older.

Beyond Weight Loss

My Journey started with wanting to be Slimmer. Then later wanting to be Healthier started when I was somewhere in my mid to late 20s. As a kid, I towered over my peers. I was taller and heavier than all my friends until I got to middle school age. Suddenly, it seemed like my peers and friends caught up with me. Looking back now, I can confidently say My Journey went Beyond Weight Loss. Weight Loss was going to be a consequence of Creating Health. This is how it all started for me.

The First Meal I Cooked

Thankfully, I was surrounded by adults, including my parents, who were inclined to eating several Home Cooked meals daily. My mother would cook, and we would ate. I can still remember vividly when I cooked my first Meal. It was Spaghetti and Meatball Tomatoed Sauce/Stew. My father, mother, and younger siblings were so kind to tell me my meal was the most delicious they had eaten in a while. How could that have been true? My mother was, and still is a terrific cook. As I reminisce about that lunch, I smile.

Those were good old days. By the way, I was approximately eight years old at the time. A very proud eight year old! As I grew older, I was someone who liked Ice Cream and Cookies, or Biscuits with Chocolate Fillings. That was my vice. This means, I loved Chocolates. Anything with chocolates was my thing!

Beyond Weight Loss

The Book that Took me Beyond Weight Loss

Fast forward to my early 20s, I was minding my own business. Just living life. Occasionally going to the gym. Drinking some alcohol here and there. Partying and travelling with friends. Nothing crazy! After all, that’s what college students do, right? I stumbled onto this book. I say stumbled because I was looking for this Text, “The Water of Life – A Treatise on Urine Therapy.” This book was written by J.W. Armstrong. There are up to nine editions of this book. I have the second edition published in 1971. This read for sure took my Quest for merely Weight Loss to Creating Health. I wanted to become Healthy.

So, I started experimenting on myself. And, of course it worked just as the Armstrong had claimed. I was blown away. And, I wanted the Whole World to know. Because even back then, there was a lot of human suffering due to various illnesses – people falling out of homeostasis, and remaining out of balance because of what I call Mismatched Interventions for different Maladies.

Starting My journey with Creating Health Far Beyond Weight Loss

Beyond Weight Loss

Gradually, or rather cold turkey I stopped the alcohol consumption, eating of cookies or biscuits with chocolate fillings. I must tell you. It was a battle to completely give up chocolate after I read this “Water of Life” book. In recent times, I have bought 100% sugar free chocolates and I eat these whenever, I feel I want to step out of my new Nutritional lifestyle for a second. Not a minute. Just One Second! After I read this Monumental book, I again stumble onto another impressive book, titled, “Eat for your Blood Type.” This book was written by Dr. Peter D’Adamo. I was intrigued by this book as well.

So, I quickly got my blood tested for my blood type, and read my section of the book. I introduced this Read to as many family members, and friends who will listen to me. And I, for sure incorporated aspects of his ideas to my routine. Things were going great. I was Creating Health.

Falling Off The Wagon

I have fallen off the wagon several times. Sometimes, my life circumstances made it impossible, anyway so I tell myself, to continue with urine therapy daily. However, I use it topically whenever, I have some Skin or Eye issues. I am proud to announce I have not fallen back into eating Biscuits and Cookies. I was never a Hamburger Eater, nor Barbecue Sauce or Ketchup gal. So, I don’t miss these. I don’t miss the added Sugars. at all.

Beyond Weight Loss

As I continued to grow older, simply predominantly eating a fairly large amount of Carbohydrates for periods of time, would inflame me in ways that made me feel very uncomfortable. Of course, initially, I didn’t connect my pain to being inflamed. Guess what! Thank goodness I continued to educate myself and research until I started finding additional Lifestyle and Nutritional Remedies.

Different Nutritional Patterns I have tried that go Beyond Weight Loss

I have tried a number of Nutritional Patterns and Plans to Lose Weight and Create Health. Some of them have been more efficient and effective than others. Here is a list:

  • Urine Therapy: Was used to reverse physical conditions. Still use it for topical issues (for Creating Health).

  • Fruit Diets: I would just eat fruits for about one to two months. Go to gym regularly. Lost a lot of weight. Sustain weight loss for a couple of months. Gain the weight back. Thank goodness, back then, I wouldn’t gain more weight than I started with. I was much younger so my body was more responsive to my strategies (for Weight Loss).

  • Fasting: Usually, you will get best results with urine therapy when you fast. My experiences with urine therapy were Short of Being Miraculous (for Creating Health).

More efforts to go beyond weight loss to create health…

Beyond Weight Loss
  • Veganism: I stumbled upon Veganism as a way of Creating Health. Not necessarily losing weight. I completely immersed myself into it. Great results emerged. My joint pains gradually receded. Before my Veganism, I had become aware of the Ketogenic Diet. However, I was afraid to eat so much animal proteins, and fat that I went back to researching and found Veganism. During the time I found the Keto diet, I also found Intermittent Fasting. So during my Vegan days, I was also intermittently fasting. Usually, I would eat one meal a day referred to as OMAD. Being used to fasting made my transition to OMAD seamless. I adopted Wholefood Veganism for about three years.
  • Then, it all came flooding back. I was much slimmer as a consequence of my way of eating. But, all my joint pains resurfaced, “wow… what the heck is that… that can’t be… I eat clean, absolutely…” You see, to me the Human Body is Magical. The body knows exactly what it needs. Your body knows when it is out of order, or out of ease. That is, when it is not in Homeostasis. And fortunately, our body graciously give us Signals when things are amiss within it. At this time, I was simple, but also sophisticated enough in thinking and feeling to listen to my body. So, I made a switch. I never stopped searching, educating myself on how to find respite so I can Share with Others. Transitioning occurred again. I went back to the Ketogenic Diet based on new information I had gathered.

Still more efforts to go beyond weight loss…

  • The Ketogenic Diet: So, I continued to eat large salads, have smoothies with ginger and garlic, and added back animal proteins, and continued to use plant oils in my nutrition. Again, I was trying to create health, not necessarily lose weight. During my Vegan days, I came across philosophies on Food Groupings based on if they were Night Shed foods, foods with Lectins, or possible dangers of Dairy products. Well, I selected my foods following these guidelines. On the Keto diet, I simply incorporated Meats, Seafood, and Fats, especially seed and vegetable based oils. I was still afraid of ingesting “too much” animal fats. I was also afraid of ingesting too much Seafood because of the Mercury in the Sea. I am not even talking about Farmed Seafood because that is a no, no for me.
Beyond Weight Loss
  • My Knee Pain Started Disappearing Again. Boy! Was I elated? I worked out regularly, and I tried to sleep early even though I had very hectic Day, and Evening Schedules. Not sure if you heard about Leslie Samson. You can go walking with her for Miles, while having Fun. And get this, it is all from the comfort of your home. Check her out here.

The end of the Ketogenic Era

  • One morning, as I was working out with Leslie and her Class, I almost Dropped to the Floor. There was shooting pain in my left hip. The pain was excruciating. At that instance, my working out was done. I tried to work out a couple of additional days, but couldn’t because the pain was just too much. Because I maintained my intermittent fasting routine I noticed I’d feel ok all day, but the pain will resurface when I ate. I knew the pain had to be food related. By this time, I was two and half years into the Ketogenic way of eating. Again, I wondered what to do next. Like I always do. I research just for the sake of researching. I had come across Water Fasting. That was familiar. And, I also came across the Carnivore diet. That was new stuff! I swallowed all the information I could get my hands on. Most of the information was on YouTube. Thank goodness! I didn’t have to Read all that.

  • So, I watched so many of these Animal Based Nutrition Videos from different people, both healthcare professionals, and Lay people chronicling their experiences with the Carnivore diet. I went on a major Fast. Then, started the Carnivore diet.

Continuation of my beyond weight loss journey… A 19 day Fast

  • A 19 day Water Fast: I completed a 19 day water fast. Three days after the onset of my Fast I felt invincible. You cannot imagine how Strong and Cognitively Sharp I felt. I continued to go to work. But, I stopped working out completely. My hip pain disappeared. That, I was very pleased about. Because I continued to work during the day and in the evening. I had to stop my water fast at 19 days. I broke my fast with some Scrambled Eggs and proceeded with the Carnivore diet.
  • Carnivore Diet: I adopted the Carnivore diet two years ago, in October 2021. I am approaching my two year anniversary soon. Look, my progress has been Slow Weight Wise. To this day, my weighing scale has barely moved, but I have lost inches because I have started wearing clothes from years ago. Precisely, from when I was following the guidelines of the Ketogenic diet. My face is noticeably leaner. Today, my pain is gone.
Beyond Weight Loss

  • That means, my inflammation is way down. Energy wise, I have no crashes. I didn’t have any crashes per se in the past because I have never been a coffee drinker. Not my struggle! I hope to narrate my experiences with the Carnivore diet in another article. Whenever I get around doing that. To be honest, when I started the Carnivore diet, I gained weight. I panicked. However, initial weight gain is typical for most people when the start the Carnivore Diet, as I understand. Like I said, I have apparently lost inches, but my bathroom scale is very slow to keep up. I haven’t weighed myself in months. I decided to weigh myself now because I am writing this page. Scale reading not significant. But, movement of the gauge is in the right direction.

Some General and Important Information From My Research Efforts Over Time

  • Knowing how to read labels when shopping for groceries is super important because most labels are misleading.
  • Knowledge is Power because the more you know about how you want to go about Creating Health, the better equipped you are to succeed.
  • Many Nutrition and Diet based Studies are Inaccurately Designed, conducted and results skewed to serve individual biases. Therefore, you have to read a lot of research to decipher what make sense to you.
  • You may have to be make some Hard Lifestyle and Nutrition Choices, Decisions and Changes.
  • Whatever Lifestyle and Nutritional Changes you are making will have to be Sustainable for you to succeed.

More Findings…

  • Sustainable ways of Eating, and subsequent weight loss trumps Fad diets.
  • There are Dangers to losing weight super fast.
  • Lifestyle and Nutritional changes are by nature much Slower processes, but Permanent processes.
  • Exercise and Nutrition go together. Lose Fat, and Retain and Grow your Muscles.
  • Eat only real food – Food. If made by man, especially when in packages, then whatever it is, is not real food – Nonfood. Food in its natural state is Real Food.
Beyond Weight Loss

Still More…

  • Real Food Nourishes our Bodies, and helps the Metabolic Process. Real Food is the best route to Permanent Weight Loss.
  • Eat Proteins with other Macro Nutrients because it buffers Sugar Spikes.
  • Transform your body into a Constantly Fat Burning body, by combining your other macro nutrients with Proteins. For me, it will depend on the extent to which your body is already Compromised, and your Constitution. This information should further inform what Food Choices and Decisions to make.
  • Food has a Thermic effect. Proteins and complex Carbohydrates have a higher thermic effect than Fats.
  • It is not so much about the Amount of Calories you consume in a day, but rather how the Food is portioned per meal. There is only so much food your body can use efficiently per meal. When we eat very large meals, we tend to store the excess as Fat.

How you Could Unintentionally Sabotage your Weight Loss and Wellness Efforts

  • Not Drinking Enough Water. And you are still drinking Sugary beverages too often. I prefer spring water in glass bottles. Also, being fully hydrated has anti-inflammatory actions in our bodies.
  • Mostly you Fail to Cook and Carry your Food with you as you exit your door
  • Eating out too much. You never really know what the cook put in the food you order at any restaurant.
  • You have unresolved Hormonal Imbalances, which have the potential to sabotage your efforts to get healthier.
  • Failure to Manage daily Stress Effectively. When you are stressed, you secrete Cortisol, the key stress hormone, which could be very detrimental if constantly present, in large doses in your body.

There are More…

Weight
  • The Type of Food you Eat such as Fast Food. Essentially Food made by man can be detrimental to your health.
  • You take Medicines that sometimes have Weight Gain as a Side Effect. I call these the Effects of the Medicine, and not merely Side Effects. And, these medicines may compromise your gut, which over time may lead to Leaky Gut, and Autoimmune Conditions. Recreational Drugs and Alcohol also Compromise your Gut.
  • You do not Exercise. Motion is lotion for the joints. Movement is essential because it preserves freshness, and Life.
  • Not Really Motivated to Change. There is no Strong enough Why for you to make changes.
