During the era of Apartheid and Slavery in South Africa, Slaves were used as Housekeepers in the Settler Colony from mid to late 18th century. What is a Settler Colony? The Modern Day Butler

From the beginning of time, the role of the Butler has been more esteemed than the status of the Housekeeper. I think I need to pause here for a minute. I am struggling right now to understand why the Butler in a household has been accorded more respect than the Housekeeper also within the same household. In any household, whether during ancient times, or currently, the Butler cannot effectively manage the Home, without the support of Housekeepers. Conversely, the Housekeeper will have a terribly hard time to run all the affairs of the Household without the helping hand of the Butler.

A Little Detour: Quickly, My Thoughts on Status given to Butler versus Housekeeping Services

In other words, how can Anyone or any Society think the East can exist without the West, or the South can exist in exclusion of the North? How can there be Daylight without Nighttime? Can there be Sunshine without Moonlight? Or, better still, can anyone have only Feminine energy without Masculine energy. or vice versa? There are binaries and dualism everywhere in our Existence. These Binaries in Nature are Complementary and can and, in fact are existing together in tandem.

The Butler and Housekeeper are figuratively speaking opposite sides of the same coin. They complement each other. Their roles are different. But, none of these two roles is More or Less Important than the other. The Housekeeper and Butler energetically and perhaps, spiritually help hold the Fortress, as Martin Luther King once wrote.

The role of the Housekeeper has basically remained the same over time. However, the way Housekeepers are Perceived and Treated in present times has Significantly Improved. The services of the Modern Housekeeper are Respected, Valued and Compensated properly. As for the Butler, his Role has Drastically Evolved. I actually thought the Butler Concept was extinct, but NO! WHO does the Housekeeper Represent Within Me?

The Housekeeper is a Female – She, the Yin, the Moon, Feminine energy, Negative, Indirect, Receptive, and Inactive parts of mySelf. I see my Body and my Mind as a Mansion. A one Storey Building with my Mind and my Body on different floor levels within the Mansion. But, these levels are both autonomous and highly interconnected. Meaning the optimization of activities on either floor of my Mansion depends on both floor levels being Cleaned and Nurtured regularly. Otherwise, the debris from one floor level will Contaminate the other.

Since, every house needs Cleaning and Nurturing to Appear and Be Inviting and Healthful. For me, it is extremely Empowering to know, I have the Capacity Within me to Nurture and keep mySelf Clear of all sorts of Negative influences. Thus, Restoring and Maintaining Balance Within my body and mind. The Capacity to restore and maintain balance is what I refer to as “The Healer is Within Us.” The Housekeeper Within Me is to a large extent synonymous to the Healer Within Me. The good news is that Everyone has the the Healer, or Inner Doctor within.

How About the Butler, Who is HE Within Me?

The Butler is a Male – He, the Yang, the Sun, Masculine energy and Positive, Penetrating, Creative and Active parts of mySelf. The Butler Within Me is part of the Whole of mySelf. My Butler represents that part of me that Activates and Organizes. In other words, part of mySelf that gets things done like completing this article. Additionally, the Butler represents part of me, which has the capacity to Move, Persevere and Persist. I bet, you can imagine the synergic effect of combining Compassion and Kindness (i.e., She – Cleanliness and Nurture), and Force and Power (i.e., He – Activation and Organization). These four attributes cumulate into The House keepers Butler.
